Minnan Normal University is located in Zhangzhou，a well-known city which is also called “The Sipsongpanna ( a famous tour destination in China ) in Southern part of Fujian Province”. On the other side of Taiwan Strait, Zhangzhou borders the city of Xiamen. It is a famous ancestral home for many Fujian and Taiwan Overseas Chinese and a lot of them come back to seek their ancestral roots. With a subtropical monsoon climate, Zhangzhou enjoys beautiful scenery and a fantastic living environment. With a long history, many historic figures and sites, the city is rich in tourism resources and customs. Because of the abundant resources, Zhangzhou has earned the reputation of “Land of Flowers, Fruits, Fish and Rice”. In Zhangzhou, you will be impressed by the local cuisine. You can also find bars and Western, Korean and Japanese restaurants in this city. Minnan Normal University is a national university which has gained great supports from the provincial government. It is also one of the universities which have got permission from the National Education Ministry to recruit overseas students. The university currently consists of 21 departments or schools. Students here may be enrolled in one of the 58 undergraduate programs, the 4 first class discipline master degree programs, the 29 second class discipline master degree programs, the 17 professional master degree programs of education or the 4 doctoral degree programs. The university’s matriculation is open to students from all over the country and from abroad, and now it has a total enrollment of 20,000,(including students studying in joint schools),including full-time undergraduate students and graduate students, who study in six major disciplines such as humanities, social studies, science, engineering, management science and agronomy. It now has a high level faculty of 1,248 including those holding concurrent posts, among whom 164 professors and 318 associate professors, and 309 doctor degree holders.

Minnan Normal University, having a library with 2.0166 million volumes of paper books and 39.239 thousand GB of electronic books and periodicals, covers a total area of 20 hectares including Petrochemical College of Minnan Normal University and a total floor space of 600,900 square meters including buildings under construction. Teaching and research equipments are worth RMB 145.1 million. It has a collection of 2.0166 million paper books and e-books of 39,239 GB. The student dormitories are well facilitated. The facilities in the Computing Center and the Center of Internet and Educational Technologies are advanced. The broadband network covers the whole campus. Therefore, the university is an ideal place for teaching and studying.

The University gives full play to the advantages of Zhangzhou City in academic and education communication with Taiwan with the unique geographical features, resources, and the historical and cultural advantages, and actively develops Minnan culture research and carries out practical teaching activities. In order to promote cultural and educational communication and to promote the Chinese language and spread the regional culture of Minnan (southern part of Fujian province), our university specially offers the programs of Chinese Language and Culture for overseas students who are interested in Chinese culture and those who want to facilitate cultural exchange. The university now offers the major of Chinese International Education(CIE). With a lot of experience in operating schools and many excellent teachers, we have the ability to provide ideal learning and living environment for overseas students.

Students overseas and those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are warmly welcomed to our university for long-term or short-term studying and communication.

I. The application requirements

1) 18-35 years old, healthy, non-Chinese citizen holding foreign valid ordinary passport;

2) Graduated from senior high school or equivalent to the educational level of Chinese senior high school graduation, above the average senior high school "B" grade (or more than 70 points);

3) The Chinese level must reach our college entrance requirements. All the undergraduates in our school receive Chinese teaching (except English major), application for liberal arts (including economics, management, law) or art class must achieve medium C level (level 6) or above of Chinese language proficiency test (HSK), and application of science specialty must achieve Primary C grade (grade 3) or above of HSK. If the Chinese level of the appliers do not reach requirement, they can take half a year or one year language preparatory training in Chinese Language and Literature College, and in every April or December, they can participate in Chinese language proficiency test in Xiamen University.

4) Those senior high school graduates who receive their education with Chinese as the main teaching language do not need to turn in their HSK certificate when applying for the entrance.

II. Application materials

1) Minnan Normal University Registration Form for Overseas Students can be downloaded from the Internet (http://oes.mnnu.edu.cn/bencandy-htm-fid-39-id-701-page-1.htm ). Please fill in the form as required seriously together with your photos.

2) Senior high school graduation certificate or Notarized copy should be handed in. Fresh graduate students can hand in school graduation proof issued by their schools. A version of notarized Chinese or English must be provided if the text is not written in Chinese or in English.

3) The transcripts of all the courses in senior high school or notarized copy should be handed in. A version of notarized Chinese or English must be provided if the text is not written in Chinese or in English.

4) The Original certificate or notarized copy of HSK, or proof of Chinese as the teaching language in middle school

5) Passport copy (the validity period of the ordinary passport)

6) Proof of good credit

8) If you have files which can prove your comprehensive abilities, such as award certificates, relevant recommendation, and so on, you can hand in those materials at the same time. Our college will give priority to your admissions.

You can surf our net address and fill in the three majors you want and hand in the application on line, and then send those application materials in paper forms. Or you can go to the office of The Overseas Education College of Minnan Normal University to handle the registration yourself or entrust others to do so. Postal materials must be sent before the application deadline.

V. Application Fee: 400RMB. It should be paid in cash or cheque when applicants submit the application . Application fee will not be handed back.

VI. Enrollment

A. The Overseas Education College of Minnan Normal University would examine the applicants’ files with relevant departments, and then choose the better applicants according to their wanted majors. We would inform applicants whether they should get a written examination or be interviewed. The final result of admission would be announced on the web of Overseas Education College (the website: http://oes.mnnu.edu.cn/) and the notices will soon be sent. We would inform the result to applicants by Email in time.

B. Minnan Normal University will accept the students who win the National Scholarship or Provincial Scholarship of Fujian Province and who are recommended by cooperative colleges and admission institution for international students.

VII. Admission Date, Duration of Schooling

A. Admission date: the first ten days of September. The exact date would be mentioned in the letter of admission.

B.Duration of schooling (including the period of suspension of schooling and rolls reservation): 4 to 6 years.

A. Boarding Fee:

a. Double room of 150 yuan per day in International Academic Exchanges Center of Minnan Normal University: air conditioner, TV, water heater, broadband, telephone, etc. are equipped.

b. The students’ dormitory: each room holds four persons, 1000—1200RMB per year, equipped with water heater, air conditioner, telephone, bathroom, etc.

A. Application for Chinese Government Scholarship

Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs, which will fund the students and scholars all over the world to learn, study and be engaged in research activities in institutions of higher education and research institute. B. Government Scholarship application in Fujian Province
